Something I think about often is how Woo can make room for whole-city wellness. What do I mean by that? I don’t have to tell any of you that a lot of people in our communities can’t afford hours in a sauna, a yoga class, or a trip to one of the cool organic grocery stores many of us can easily get to. Sometimes it’s money, and sometimes it’s just time.
When I picture wellness in Houston, my vision (and a lot of other people’s, too) includes people from all walks of life, and it means caring for the most vulnerable people in our city.
One of my very good friends, Amber, is the founder and CEO of The Riverside Project. Their mission is to bring together organizations and passionate people who want to work side by side to support children and families affected by the foster care system.
I could sing their praises all day long. Watching them grow more every year encourages me every time I get to spend time with their team or jump into their work. Last weekend was their annual fundraiser, and first of all, it was SO fun (I love bingo!). It was just as meaningful to hear more stories about how they’re caring for families right here in our city.

Saddle Up for a Couples Weekend at Beacon Ranch
Date nights are great, but sometimes your relationship needs more than dinner and a movie, and that’s the idea behind the Equine Couples Intensive at Beacon Ranch. After families loved their parent-child and Family Connection programs, Beacon Ranch is making space for just the two of you.
Hold your horses (and each other) for a weekend that’s all about you two.
This weekend blends guided time with horses, real conversations, and space to reflect, all tailored to the couples attending. Depending on what you need, that could mean communication, trust, repairing after conflict, shared values, or building habits that keep you close for the long haul. Everything happens on the ground, so no riding or horse experience is needed. It’s led by Danielle Mitchell, an EAGALA-certified LPC, and Rachel Clyde, an EAGALA-certified equine specialist.
Meals and snacks are covered all weekend, including Saturday dinner at Rapha Kitchen + Co, and lodging is coordinated nearby, so all you have to do is show up.
Join Beacon Ranch in Bellville, about an hour west of Houston, from Saturday afternoon, November 21, through Sunday, November 22. Grab your spot here, space is limited.

Our Not-So-Scary Plan for Halloween Candy
We’re not really the spooky, scary Halloween crew, but we love the day for what it is, a reason to be outside with friends and neighbors (fall weather TBD… we’re in Houston after all). We’re sharing how we handle the candy stash with kids of all ages, our favorite dye-free candy swaps, and fun non-candy treats your neighborhood will actually be excited about.

Wellness Around Town
Guys, my hacker saga from earlier this year continues. All of my socials are having a nice reset from a Meta security team. I am fairly confident I will be back up and running in the next few days. With this said, wellness events will return next week.
