My tiny plant lady.
There’s just something about a tiny human watering plants that is impossibly cute.
My kids keep asking to care for plants and grow a garden, and as an urban parent I’m always looking for simple ways to nurture their curiosity and their willingness to get their hands a little dirty. I’ve realized there are so many incredible nurseries and master gardeners around town who are absolute gold mines of knowledge. After taking a couple years off from gardening, I’m officially feeling the itch again and planning to put in a raised bed this spring.
I’ve also been reading Folks, This Ain’t Normal by Joel Salatin and it’s been such an interesting read. It definitely gets a bit technical when he dives into farming and agriculture, but he has a way of making complex practices feel understandable — and even inspiring. More than anything, it highlights the lost skills and disciplines our culture seems to be craving a return to. I recommend checking it out!
The Benefits of Having Plants & Where To Get Them
This guide highlights some of Houston’s best local plant shops and nurseries while breaking down the difference between easy indoor houseplants and simple at-home garden setups. It’s designed to make bringing greenery into your space feel approachable — whether you’re adding a single shelf plant or starting a small herb garden. The goal is simple: help Houstonians create calmer, healthier homes one plant at a time.
